Dilansir dari Phone Arena, Google memutuskan untuk mengumumkan Android O pada 21 Agustus mendatang dalam siaran langsung dari New York City yang akan dimulai pukul 2:40 EST. Waktu ini dipilih karena bertepatan dengan terjadinya gerhana matahari di Amerika Serikat di hari yang sama. Pihak Google lewat laman resminya telah mempromosikan acara tersebut termasuk juga untuk alat penghitung waktu mundur.
Google juga telah mengumumkan sejumlah pembaharuan untuk aplikasi pencarian versi Android karyanya, termasuk juga kemampuan menampilkan dan memutarkan preview video pada hasil pencarian di aplikasi pada perangkat mobile.
